Diet 🥗, Training 🏋️‍♀️, Where Do I Begin 🤯?!

You’ve decided it’s time to get serious about your health and fitness goals.

Maybe things in life have settled down and you’re ready to prioritize something new. OR you took some pictures at a family gathering and thought to yourself, “Is this really what I look like”? You might have pulled out your trusty ‘go to’ pair of jeans 👖 that used to fit just right and now feel a little snug. Or don’t even make it over your thighs (it happens).

Either way, you’re ready to make a change.

So you do what everyone does.

You go on Instagram or TikTok for some fitness inspiration.

Or better yet, you Google, ‘Best way to lose weight”.

And the onslaught begins.

You get bombarded with so called “experts” telling you what worked for them and why you should drop everything you’re doing and invest in their programs.

  • Keto

  • Intermittent Fasting

  • Atkins

  • The Fruit Diet

  • V-Shred

  • Juice Fasts

  • Detoxes and Cleanses

  • Ten minute workouts

  • Cut gluten

  • Don’t eat sugar

  • Kelly the 20 year old telling you how she ‘keeps it tight’ by using her booty bands and whatever drink mix she’s getting paid to sell you (when she isn’t even using that stuff herself, but that’s a story for another time 🙄)

You’re overwhelmed and it’s only been 10 minutes ⏱️. The transformation pictures you see are just too good to be true, but you buy into it because you’re desperate and will do anything to feel better and get the results you’re craving.

The money is spent, you get the e-book or whatever kit was recommended and you’re excited to start.

There’s a diet plan filled with all the foods you should and shouldn’t eat and in what quantities.

The workout routine seems clear with tons of cardio, circuits, weight lifting, bands, etc.

How many glasses of water you should drink a day and what supplements you should take.

It’s perfect. After all, you just need someone to tell you what to do and you’ll do it, right?

Monday comes and you begin your new routine.

You start getting up at 5am (when you normally wake up at 7am and even that’s a struggle) because “fit people” get it done early. This time, that’s going to be you.

You drag yourself to the gym.

Go crazy on all the cardio 🏃‍♀️and weight lifting 🏋️‍♀️ that was recommended. You have no idea if you’re doing it right. It burns, everything hurts and you’re dying so it must be working, obviously.

You get home and guzzle down your green “energy boosting, fat burning, muscle building” drink that was recommended as part of your diet routine that “guaranteed results”.

You’re feeling accomplished. You are ABSOLUTELY going to crush it this time.

You go about your day and then soreness starts to set in.

You ate healthy for breakfast and lunch but now the 3pm crash is starting to creep in and you just want the comfort foods you usually turn to at this time.

NOPE, you’re not gonna give in. After all, those forbidden treats are NOT on your program. If you want this bad enough you’ll just have to try harder.

You make it home and choke down the chicken 🐔 salad 🥬 you prepped the night before. The hunger is not at all satisfied so you just go to bed so you don’t have to think about it. Or hey, now is a good time to implement the “drink water if you feel hungry cause you’re actually just thirsty” rule you’ve been reading about.

And you get up and do this every day, completely exhausted and depleted, until Friday. Just to step on the scale to see you’ve lost one pound. Or worse, gained two. The only explanation being you need to push harder next week.

Now the weekend hits and there’s parties, food, and fun waiting for you. You worked hard all week, you’re exhausted and deserve to splurge, right? You’ll get back at it strong on Monday for sure…

And the cycle continues.

Does this sound familiar?

What if I told you that the health and fitness industry makes money off your desperation and insecurities and uses your pain as a way for them to get rich? 🤑

I hope that makes you as angry as it makes me.

Now, here’s the thing, all the methods I listed above actually work (well, minus Kelly and her booty bands) because they all create some type of energy deficit. That’s how you lose weight, eat less than your body burns. It’s science. But they don’t take one of the biggest factors into consideration…

YOU!!

These fads don't look at your life, lifestyle, things you enjoy and find pleasurable or things you absolutely can’t stand. It’s a “one size fits all” approach and It doesn’t speak to or consider what encourages, drives, motivates and empowers YOU.

So…

What SHOULD you do?

Simple.

Start small, one step at a time.

Begin with what you feel you can control and be the MOST CONSISTENT with.

Does working out seem like the least intimidating thing for you? Let’s start there. Join a gym, hire a personal trainer, go to a yoga class. Whatever interests you that you ENJOY.

Listen, working out should NEVER involve doing something you HATE.

Meal plans? You should NEVER feel like you have to cut out foods that you love.

If you enjoy it, you’ll do it. If you hate it, you won’t.

The ULTIMATE goal is CONSISTENCY. Do you hate burpees? Does your body hurt every time you’re done with a HIIT class? Do you feel so tired you can’t get off the couch for 3 hours after a workout?

Then that is NOT the routine for you.

Well, how about weight lifting? Yoga 🧘🏾‍♀️? Walking? Do you feel AMAZING after you do those things?

Yep, you just found your new workout routine. Things that refresh and energize you.

This is your base.

HERE is where you’ll begin and build everything else up from there.

How many days a week feel comfortable for you? Once, twice?

BAM 💥….start there.

Be consistent with that every week. IF and WHEN you’re ready for more, add it in. But you’ll always have your foundation of twice a week that you can SUSTAIN.

The same principle applies to your diet.

If you literally gag at the thought of raw spinach and kale salads with dry chicken, or a roasted sweet potato, broccoli and a turkey burger makes you sad for life then…

That is NOT the diet for you!

How do you like roasted salmon with risotto on the side? Or maybe ground beef hard shell tacos 🌮 with a side of guac? Does that sounds amazing?

Then THESE are the foods you should focus on eating. I know, it sounds TOO good to be true. You’re probably thinking, Dani, so you’re trying to tell me I can do a workout I enjoy AND eat delicious foods while also losing weight?

Yes…that is exactly what I’m saying.
You just have a hard time believing it because your whole life you’ve been sold a lie that pain and suffering is the only way to succeed.

It’s not.

You can thrive while enjoying the journey.

It truly is the ONLY way to success.
